Today in class, we began Bend Two of the Informational Writing Unit. You all did an excellent job of finalizing revisions for your Teen Activism draft. This will be used in the future, so don’t lose track of it. We began Session 5 of a two-day lesson. You were encouraged to refer back to the question, “What about this topic is important?” considering it often leads you to focus on a part of your original topic and lead you along a trail of research. Each of you selected a topic that interested you from the following list:
- Environmental Issues
- Equality in Girls’ Education
- Child Labor
- Animal Abandonment
The whole-class sample provided in class was:
Teen activism–> Equality in Girls’ Education –> Malala –> girls around the world being denied an education–> people who support providing girls, globally, within an education

Please refer to our Session 5 folder in Schoology for some great recommended text sets to help narrow down your research. We will continue and conclude this process tomorrow!
As promised, we also read Chapter 2 of The Giver together (…expect to do this for the first four chapter since the exposition is very important). We started to fill out the Stages of Life PDF that we imported into Notability as the stages of life in this community play important roles in these characters’ lives.
