Wednesday, October 26th

Today in class, we quickly reviewed Contrasts and Contradiction signposts from the previous chapters of The Outsiders. You added that to your copy of the Notice and Note Signpost and Annotations Google Doc.

Then, you were introduced to a new reading signpost: Aha Moments.

An Aha Moment is when a character realizes, understands, or finally figures something out. When this happens, you want to pause and ask yourself, How might this change things?

You initially practiced this skill with an exhilarating mentor text/picture book, I Want My Hat Back.

We finished reading Chapter 5 and started Chapter 6 (depending on the ELA block) of The Outsiders to practice this strategy and recorded additional pieces of evidence from the text to support the common themes.

  • Finish any unfinished “Practicing My Craft” techniques to your flash draft (Due Thursday)
  • Fishbowl Group #2 (written portion and wiki review)
SUBMIT to Fishbowl assignment before HR begins
  • Fishbowl Group #3-4: Keep reading
