Today, we focused on the Contrasts and Contradictions reading strategy using a great short story– Langston Hughes’s Thank You, Ma’am. We completed a chart with guiding questions and had insightful discussions while practicing this strategy.
Contrasts and Contradictions occur when authors show us something that does not fit with what we expect. When they present us with a contrast or contradiction, we want to pause and ask ourselves, Why would the character act this way?
You went into Schoology into the Notice and Note folder to find the Notice and Note Signposts and Annotations and imported it into Google Drive for future active reading note-taking.
We started to read Chapter 5 of The Outsiders to continue to practice this strategy as well as recorded additional pieces of evidence from the text to support the common themes.
